Eagan High School – Over the course of the weekend of December 4th and 5th, twelve SCPA middle school and upper school students participated in the Novice and JV State Debate Tournament at Eagan High School.
While all of our students represented our school to the best of their ability, two particular teams had standout performances. The policy debate team of Arian Tomar and Nana Boadu-Mensah (both seventh graders competing against high school teams) won three of their five debates, besting students from Wayzata and Edina, before missing out on the top sixteen cutoff by a half of a speaker point.
Additionally, Alex Nelson, a tenth grade Lincoln-Douglas debater, emerged from the preliminary rounds of the tournament with a 5-1 record, advanced through the triple-octafinals, double-octafinals, and octafinal round before finishing his incredible tournament showing in the quarterfinal round.
This year has seen our speech and debate program grow and thrive, and we are excited for future prospects in this exciting and competitive activity!
