The 2018 baseball season ended on a difficult note for St. Croix Prep with a 12-2 sectional defeat at St. Croix Lutheran. The Crusaders lived up to their name in that game, scoring ten first inning runs in route to the win.
On Friday, the teams met again at Lutheran. This time, it was the Lions that emerged victorious. The Lions opened the scoring in the first as Carter Rogness scored on a Sam Johnson single and added two second inning runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Crusaders tallied three third inning runs to tie the score 3-3. The Lions’ bats stayed strong late in the game, scoring twice in the fifth and adding single runs in the sixth and seventh. Lutheran mounted a brief threat in the seventh but managed just a single run, gaining Prep a 7-4 victory.
Barrett Benson (5 IP) and Will North (2 IP) combined to hold the Crusaders to six hits. The Lions’ offense was led by three hits from Rogness and two hits each by Nolan Grubisch and Ryan Parratt. Rogness and Sam Johnson each drove in two runs.
The Lions will play twice on Saturday before heading into the final week of the regular season.
